Balsa is a thickly muscled woman standing over six feet in height. Her kind eyes seem out of sorts with her massive build, and her desire to nurture the few remaining plants and animals in the land seems to run counter to her combat training and her assortment of weapons. But as both warrior and guardian of nature she seeks to preserve what remains of the world that once was.

Balsa Hackberry was just a child when the Cataclysm changed the world. She was taken in by the Clan and immediately gravitated towards a ranger named Saldari, second-in-command in the clan's ranger ranks to Scar. Saldari showed her the remains of the pre-cataclysmic world -- its plants, animals, and wonders -- as well as teaching her how to defend herself against the hordes who seem to want to wipe out all traces of the world before they arrived.

Balsa most often wields a longsword in her right hand and a mace in the other. She is also skilled with a bow and has made many memorable shots with it....
